Today you will work on a timed exercise of analysing a music video before the end of the lesson. By the end of the lesson you will

• Be able to use a variety of media terminology to analyse a music video
• Complete a rough evaluation of the music video of your choice

Read the blog entry below and note some of the key terms.

Activity

• Choose a music video to study
• Watch it at least 3 times
• Get a copy of the lyrics (to help with the meaning)
• Answer the following key points
  • Identify the type of video
  • Describe what happens in the video
  • Describe how the video has been constructed

Task

Construct your analysis adding in the following points

• How is the song portrayed or interpreted?
• How is the style of music represented?
• How is the band or artiste represented?
• What messages or impressions do you get about the artiste?
• How are editing and camera movelment used in teh video?
• How are lighting and colour used?
• What is the overall effect of the video?
• Does the vid3eo add to the song?
• does the video help to sell the song?
